Bellevue Hill

Information +

Located at the crest of Bellevue Hill beside the historic Rivers Street water tower, this new house replaces a Federation Bungalow with a contemporary, site-responsive home for a family of five. Designed to maximise light, space, and connection to the outdoors, the house fully embraces its east–west orientation and natural slope.

A partially excavated basement allows for street-level access and discreetly houses parking and storage, freeing the ground level for open-plan living that flows across the site. Covered outdoor rooms on both ends support flexible outdoor living year-round, with views east to Bondi and west to the city.

Material choices—board-formed in-situ concrete, steel-framed joinery, and overlapping zinc cladding—create a robust yet refined palette, offering durability, thermal efficiency, and low maintenance. The design references local architectural traditions while maintaining a strong modern identity. Low fencing and open landscaping welcome street engagement, anchoring the home within its suburban context.

Delivered in close collaboration with Decus, Wyer & Co, and Innovative Building Services, this home is a confident, enduring response to its site and the needs of contemporary family life.
